Friday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time
The Gospel Today
As Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said,
“How do the scribes claim that the Christ is the son of David?
David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said:
The Lord said to my lord,
‘Sit at my right hand
until I place your enemies under your feet.’
David himself calls him ‘lord’;
so how is he his son?”
The great crowd heard this with delight.
REFLECTION (Sem. Eldrick S. Peña)
In the Gospel, Jesus astonishes the crowd with His answer. That is who Jesus is! He has astonished so great a crowd during His lifetime when he preached to them, and performed miracles on and for them.
In our present situation, do we still experience being astonished when we come to meet Jesus in prayer and in the Eucharist? There are now so many competing voices around us, telling us to consider so and so things and so and to choose so and so options and usually – Jesus will not be among the options.
We engage in everything that is pleasurable, enjoyable, pleasing. The secular mentality of the world would always delete anything about God in the equation. People would question the relevance of God and religion in this day and age.
It is good to ask ourselves: “Has God really become irrelevant?” and if so, How can I bring Him back into my life? That is what should interest us at this moment. To do some pondering and introspection on How God works in our life and it could lead us to so many astonishing discoveries of the many wonderful things that God has done to us in the course of our life history.
