Reflection (Sem. Peter Collin C. Crisostomo)

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.”

This statement from the Gospel is very much powerful. Our faith teaches us that to attain eternal life one must be first baptized. It is through baptism that one becomes part of the family of God. This made me also reflect on my experience in apostolate. I was assigned to give a pre-baptismal seminar to those would have their child’s baptism.

This experience made me also reflect on how it was during my own baptism. I am very glad that I was given this opportunity to conduct a pre-baptismal seminar because I am always reminded of how my parents and godparents responded and passed on their faith for me back then.

The challenge I usually pose on parents and godparents is how to enliven the faith and transcend from them to their child or godchildren. One must know his or her faith but more importantly one should live the faith. It is in knowing that we can live it.

As a priest-in-process, I am called to continue the mission of spreading the faith through simple exercises like that of pre-baptismal seminar. It is through this exercise that I can proclaim God’s Word and help others understand their faith. As an installed lector, many things have to be learned but with God’s grace I know that it is not I who speak before the people, I am just an instrument, it is He who really speaks to the people.

The Gospel Today
John 3:31-36

The one who comes from above is above all.
The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things.
But the one who comes from heaven is above all.
He testifies to what he has seen and heard,
but no one accepts his testimony.
Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy.
For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God.
He does not ration his gift of the Spirit.
The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him.
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life,
but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life,
but the wrath of God remains upon him.
