The Gospel Today

Wednesday of the Second Week of Advent

Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus said to the crowds:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

Reflection (Sem. Julius de Gracia):

Jesus is our yoke-mate”

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am meek and humble of heart…” (Mt. 11:28-29)

     Jesus said, “Take MY YOKE upon you and LEARN FROM ME…”. When Jesus ask us to take the yoke, He does not just command, but he truly offers himself to you and me to be “our YOKE-MATE”. The yoke, in fact belongs to Him and only He invites you and me to team up with Him.

     Our lives as Christians will never be separated from the CROSS of CHRIST. For only through the ACCEPTANCE of our CROSSES we become sharer’s of His RESSURECTED life, “sa araw araw na kamatayan ay may buhay na walang-hanggan”, that phrase ring a bell, when we fully accept and follow CHRIST even if it means DEATH with HIM and for Him, for HE ALONE gives LIFE and He alone is the ORIGIN and DESTINY of our lives.

     Life is to be lived as a mystery, not a problem to be solved, the lives of the Saints is extraordinary because they LOVE and SERVE its source.  That source is GOD perfectly manifested in Christ and now can be felt and found in the Sacraments of the Church. They (the saints) are not just DOERS and ACHIEVERS of holiness, but rather they DISCOVERED and EXPERIENCED GOD.

     Christian living indeed is all about two (2) things; EXPERIENCING GOD and SHARING THE EXPERIENCE OF THE DIVINE to others. Nobody who wanted to follow Christ is spared from the cross this is what we will share to others, yes there is the cross and it is difficult but let us not fall short in looking only at the cross, for like Jesus who resurrected after three (3) days we too is offered with that hope that “matatapos din ang lahat ng pagtitiis at hirap sa buhay sapagkat may Diyos na gumagabay at kadamay – “for there is a God who is our ally and is always with us.”

     Brothers and sisters whatever is our situation now, I am sure Jesus is with us, Jesus is ready to transform our mourning into joy, our discouragement with hope and our sickness with healing.

     Let us always look at Jesus and focused only on Jesus for He is our all in life.
