The Gospel Today
Tuesday of Fifth Week of Easter
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give it to you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
You heard me tell you,
‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’
If you loved me,
you would rejoice that I am going to the Father;
for the Father is greater than I.
And now I have told you this before it happens,
so that when it happens you may believe.
I will no longer speak much with you,
for the ruler of the world is coming.
He has no power over me,
but the world must know that I love the Father
and that I do just as the Father has commanded me.”
Reflection (Sem. Justin Gatus)
A few weeks before our Life Healing Journey workshop, I started to feel uneasy. I started to compare myself with others; questioning my actions and asking why others treat me as such. I prayed harder that time but, still, it was as if God was not there. I stayed longer in our oratories waiting and hoping that the anxious and uncomfortable feeling would soon be gone. Then, it came to a point that I became numb and emotionless because I got tired of thinking too much.
Then, in our workshop, my prayers were answered one by one. There was that person inside me who was restless because he wanted one thing—peace. I was bothered and deeply troubled because I could not find peace. I was searching for peace outside and from others, but I could not find it because I, myself, did not know what peace was. I failed to look within me and have peace of mind before searching and sharing peace externally.
Jesus wants us to have peace—not just the absence of chaos but also to have His presence in our lives. He is always there waiting for us to come near Him and listen to Him. What makes us deaf sometimes is our very own voice. We search for peace outside that would only give us temporary happiness and contentment but not the genuine peace that we are truly looking for. We tend to be restless in search for answers to our questions but we fail to listen to the peace deep inside us. And within that stillness, Jesus is there waiting for us to talk to Him. When we finally find Him there, we are bound to reach harmony, love, and happiness. And, this peace must not be only kept to ourselves it must be shared with others!
Before ascending into heaven, Jesus gives us the gift of peace. This gift is sometimes overpowered by our personal version of peace. What we must always remember is that we can only find true, eternal, and genuine peace in our hearts by having a close relationship with the Lord!
