The Gospel Today
Saturday of the Sixth Week of Easter
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.
Until now you have not asked anything in my name;
ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
“I have told you this in figures of speech.
The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures
but I will tell you clearly about the Father.
On that day you will ask in my name,
and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you.
For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me
and have come to believe that I came from God.
I came from the Father and have come into the world.
Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”
Reflection (Sem. Ivan Joseph Feniquito)
Jesus is the visible face of the Father. When you look on Jesus, you will see the Father in Him. What do I long for in my life? Honestly, I long for the love of God. His love is enough for me. For me to be assured of the Father’s love, I also believe in Jesus.
The invitation for me in this Gospel is to believe. To believe in Jesus and love him.Jesus is the door, the key, and the way towards the Father in heaven. In the Gospel, Jesus is inviting us to ask in His name so that we may receive and attain happiness. Also, in Him is the source of complete joy. I am certain that Jesus wants us to be happy. If Jesus is in our heart, we will be filled with great joy, a sign that we truly believe in Jesus.
In this season of Easter, it is an invitation to continue to believe in the Risen Lord who conquered death to save us and bring us peace and joy. I remember the song during the Papal Visit last year – “We are All God’s Children.” We receive joy, peace, and love from Him, with grateful hearts we let others especially the poor, the needy and the abandoned to experience love from the Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
