Rock-solid Faith

The Gospel Today
Matthew 7:21, 24-27

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’
will enter the Kingdom of heaven,
but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them
will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.
The rain fell, the floods came,
and the winds blew and buffeted the house.
But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock.
And everyone who listens to these words of mine
but does not act on them
will be like a fool who built his house on sand.
The rain fell, the floods came,
and the winds blew and buffeted the house.
And it collapsed and was completely ruined.”

REFLECTION (Sem. Lloyd Anthony G. Pagulayan)

Saint Mother Teresa once said that the problems that beset us are God’s manifestations of His immense trust on us. She just wished that God did not trust her that much.

At this very moment while scribbling this reflection, I was whispering my fervent prayer to Him… “Lord, I know you would have never put me in this situation if You do not trust that I can withstand this. Let me endure this cross and embrace this suffering You are letting me experience.”
Today’s Gospel is an invitation for me to deeply reflect on the foundation of my faith.

“The rain fell, the flood came and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock.”

In life, we pray not for God to remove our sufferings and spare us from challenges, instead, let us sincerely ask our Lord to help us carry our crosses and lean on our rock-solid faith in Him. Yes, times might come that we just simply want to call it quits and boldly say to our Lord, “I’m done here. I can no longer bear the agony and pain. I have shed bucket-full of tears of despair.”

But He is just rocking our faith to test its foundation. If renovation works are needed, if further steel installation is required to strengthen the masterpiece God is building, then so be it. May His will be done in our lives. In all these, may God be praised. AMEN.
