Thursday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time
The Gospel Today
Jesus went to the district of Tyre.
He entered a house and wanted no one to know about it,
but he could not escape notice.
Soon a woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him.
She came and fell at his feet.
The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth,
and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter.
He said to her, “Let the children be fed first.
For it is not right to take the food of the children
and throw it to the dogs.”
She replied and said to him,
“Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.”
Then he said to her, “For saying this, you may go.
The demon has gone out of your daughter.”
When the woman went home, she found the child lying in bed
and the demon gone.
REFLECTION (Sem. Peter Collin C. Crisostomo)
In September 2014, our parish priest asked who among his parishioners are willing to have a life size image of the characters for the Holy Week. My family chose an image of the Risen Lord. I felt so excited because before I just dreamt of owning a life size image of any character in the Holy Week Procession.
We have found the right sculptor suitable to our taste and preference. We immediately commissioned him to make it, so that by March of 2015 we can already have the image. The image of the Risen Lord got home on the 27 March 2015, just in time for the celebration of Easter, 5 April 2015. But before it materialized, it underwent a lot of trials. Some of those are the delayed payments because it was not really that easy to produce money if it was not yet pay-roll week. Another problem that I may consider to be of great concern is the carriage for the image. Even if we obtained the image and wilfully lent it for usage, we could not let it out of the house because most of the carriage owned by my friends would also be used for their images for Holy Week.
I asked God if it is His will to help us find a way to acquire a carriage for His image. I put a small request letter underneath my Sleeping Saint Joseph asking his intercession to help us find a way. The following day, Friday, my best friend gave me a call, asking if I want to see a second hand carriage that was for sale. It gave me the chills once I heard his news. I uttered loudly, “answered prayers… Wooohoo!”
The following day we went there and tried to bargain the price. We both acquired the image as well as the carriage. We entrusted everything to Him. If it is His will, He will help us find a way. Just like the Syrophoenician, full of faith, she entrusted everything to Jesus and so should we.
