Jn 16: 29-33

The disciples said to Jesus,
“Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech.
Now we realize that you know everything
and that you do not need to have anyone question you.
Because of this we believe that you came from God.”
Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now?
Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived
when each of you will be scattered to his own home
and you will leave me alone.
But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
I have told you this so that you might have peace in me.
In the world you will have trouble,
but take courage, I have conquered the world.” tain that we will have to face failures and disappointments in life. If we are expecting to fail or be disappointed, then it may not be so disappointing. But if we are confident and not expecting to fail or be disappointed, then when the unexpected failure of disappointment comes, it will hit us hard.

Reflection (Sem. Keith R. Buenaventura)

In the Gospel, the disciples thought that they had already understood Jesus and had come to a firm faith in Him. Yet as Jesus foretold, as much as they believe in Him, they will also fail Him. The disciples, according to Jesus, will scatter and leave Him alone. The disciples will forsake Jesus but He is not afraid because the Father is with Him. And because God is with Him, He will be at peace.

It has been a year since I and my batch mates have entered the seminary. Of the many weeks and months that we lived in the seminary, there have been many ups and downs, struggles and difficulties in the formation.
As the Gospel proclaims today, Jesus wants to give us peace because in this world we will face more t
han just unexpected disappointments. Whether we expect it or not, we will have to face troubles once we are sent to the world. Yet in all the troubles and difficulties, Jesus wants us to know that God is with us. One must be brave and put his trust in the Lord. When we are with Jesus, we will have peace. Otherwise, we will be scattered in pieces.
